Crop Over is Barbados’ ultimate summer festival, celebrating the end of the sugar cane harvest. The season features energetic fetes, and a fusion of music and dance. It all ends with Grand Kadooment, a vibrant costume parade full of color and culture.

That’s not all. Select leaves and vines adorn the costume and its back pack to bring this stunning piece of wearable art together. Beautiful. Botanical. Barbados. It’s just in our nature
It all starts with the headpiece: a captivating cluster of gems representing starfish, sea glass and other treasures found under the sea.
These precious stones are also “caught” in the fish net stockings and running along the mesh body wear. Homage is paid to beautiful sea fans found on our shores - appearing as a main feature of the neck piece and dotted throughout the creation.
The frenetic flow of the surf is referenced in the costume’s sleeves and the frills of its frontline back pack.
From rock pools to sea sprays, the blues of Bathsheba convey a coolness in calamity. It’s a salute to the flow that surrounds our people, and our land, with unsurmountable blessings.
The way the beads cascade creates that same sense of motion and energy, bringing the character’s dynamic presence into the costume. The printed patterned fabric pays tribute to costume legend Gwyneth Squires. We salute this stalwart and her bold, yet intricate creations.
This fabric was intentionally chosen because it represents a patchwork effect, which mirrors her signature style over the years. Vibrant, detailed, and rich in storytelling, Doo flicky celebrates tradition and honours our cultural, creative legacy.
This section honors the grapefruit with a refreshing, colourful combination. Akin to catching your taste buds on the first bite, it was designed to catch your eyes on the first look. Bright and tart. The neck piece and dangle elements on the arms and legs reference the fruit in its flowering stage, while the draped strings of yellow jewels represent the fruit at full bloom.
The gems used mimic its pulp and that of other citrus fruits found on the island. Gold stands out in the design to also pay homage to the goddess Pomona and celebrate the fruitful abundance found ‘bout hay'
This energy is embodied through a dark, sensual, commanding lens. Black for depth and mystery. Blush for softness and femininity. Rose gold for illumination. The dripping, elongated shoulders mimics stalactites and stalagmites, which are formed drip by drip over time, directly referencing the cave’s formations, creating movement and a sense of organic growth.
The wing structure expands, almost like the cave itself was opening up, revealing its hidden majesty.

Travel & Packing
Pack lightweight, breathable clothing like tanks, tees, shorts, and loose-fitting shirts or dresses. The Caribbean heat is no joke—think comfort first, but don’t be afraid to throw in some bold colors or fun prints that match the carnival vibe.
Bring sunscreen (SPF 30+), a reusable water bottle, sunglasses, a hat or bandana for shade, and a waterproof phone pouch. Add a portable charger too—you’ll be snapping pics and videos all day.
Whether you’re in full costume or just jumping up in the crowd, bring extra socks, comfortable sneakers or carnival boots, and a small emergency kit (safety pins, mini deodorant, wet wipes, painkillers). For anyone in costume—pack body glue, fashion tape, and backup accessories.
Carnival isn’t just about the parade—it’s also about beach limes and all-inclusive fetes. Pack at least 3 swimsuits, flip-flops or water shoes, and 4 party-ready outfits that are fun but comfortable enough to dance in. A pair of shades that look good and don’t cost too much (just in case they get lost) is a pro move too.
